Welcome to Language Access and Interpreter Services

General Information

The Marin County Superior Court Interpreter Services Division provides multilingual interpretation and general language services in court proceedings to ensure meaningful participation in the judicial court process for individuals with limited English proficiency. In doing so, the court promotes equal access to justice and guarantees court procedures are fair and understandable for court users of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

Parties and witnesses involved in Marin County Superior Court cases may request a court interpreter to be made available for courtroom proceedings in all case types. Individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing are entitled to an interpreter for all court proceedings, whether criminal or civil. The cost of court interpreter services is covered by the court.

Make a court interpreter request as early as possible to ensure one is available when needed.

Need an Interpreter?

Step 1: Look at your court paperwork to make sure you have the following information:

  • Case number
  • Case name
  • Date and time of the hearing

Step 2: Make your request by emailing, interpreter@marin.courts.ca.gov and provide the following information:

  • Your full name
  • Your contact information
  • Case number
  • Case name
  • Language needed
  • Date and time of the hearing

Make all requests for a court interpreter in advance with as much notice as possible, and before the hearing, with a minimum of three (3) business days' notice for Spanish and five (5) business days for all other languages.

Cancel an Interpreter

Notify the Interpreter Services Division of any changes, continuances, or cancellations as soon as possible. To cancel an interpreter , please email interpreter@marin.courts.ca.gov or call (415) 444-7059.

Need an Interpreter Outside of the Court?

You may obtain the services of a court-certified or registered interpreter authorized to provide interpreter services in California if an interpreter is needed outside of the court, by selecting one from the list available at https://www.courts.ca.gov/35273.htm. Payment for these services is the responsibility of the party requesting the interpreter.

Language Access Complaint and Feedback Form

The Marin County Superior Court wants all court users, including those with limited English proficiency, to have access to the courts. To provide feedback or a complaint about language access services at the Marin County Superior Court, click on the language below to open a complaint form to complete and submit to interpreter@marin.courts.ca.gov.

You will receive an acknowledgment that we've received your complaint regarding the court’s language access services within 30 days.

You will also be contacted about the status of the resolution of your complaint within 60 days.

Please be aware this will not change or modify any decision made by a judicial officer and that its review of the complaint does not, in any way, affect or extend any applicable deadlines or procedural requirements such as filing motions, appeals, modifications, etc.
